Notes

First of all we would like to express our sincere thanks to José Veigas, the curator and archivist of Cuban art, for his generous support in putting this catalog together.

A complete description of the Cuban art from 1902 till 2002 can be found in “ Memoria: Cuban Art of the 20 th Century ” compiled by José Veigas and four other leading experts. It presents 470 artists and 568 works with many critical and historical texts written by various authors, plus a chronology, description and analysis of the 100 most important exhibitions between 1921 and 1996.
More about it under www.artnexus.com

We are able to get you in touch with all the artists presented in this book - as far as they are still living in Cuba - and also to help you find works of late artists.

Colagraphy
In Colagraphy (cola= glue) the image is made from layers of matirials like india-rubber, wood, cloth, or cellulose with are pasted on a matrix made of metal, linolium, cardboard or wood.
The coloring and printing process is the same as in others graphic arts.

Mena
Despite that Mena does not belong to the categories mentioned in >subject>, we do present him in the first catalog, since he has already gained fame as an excellent and promising artist.
We also recommend his lithographs [50 x 70 cm] for their art as well as their relatively low prices.

Zarza
The three masks of Zarza have been created during his last visit to Kenya, and constite a triptych.

Sosabravo
Sosabravo created in 1998/99 together with the masters of the Italian glass-manufacturer ARS MURANO fourteen extraordinary glass-sculptures > arsmuran@perarte.it

Carlos del Toro
The three works “view of a bird / the girl may come forth / a little surprise” belong to a triptych.
Carlos del Toro has been heading the workshop for experimental graphics TEAG [Taller Experimental de Arte Gráfica] and is thus also a master of the graphic arts. There are many lithographs and wood engravings of his, which we can recommend for their beauty and technical perfection as well as for their low prices.

And all of that counts for Jose Omar and Zarza too.

Dominguez
Nelson is not only one of the most reknown, but also one of the most varied and productive Cuban artist, which is the reason why we are only able to present his enormous output of paintings, graphics, ceramics and sculptures on special request.
