Curriculum - 01 - Manuel Mendive

Manuel Mendive Hoyo was born in 1944 in Havana, where he graduated in 1963 from the art academy "San Alejandro".
His works have been exhibited worldwide and countless times. They received 17 awards and are in 14 museums in 12 nations.

" Mendive relies on thought, touch, color, breath, air, fire. His paintings, just like his actions and performances which he so deftly orchestrates, demonstrate his fidelity to his own visionary sensibilities. Mendive is an artist who has not renounced the poetic, the subtle and nuanced evocation of the essence. Nor does he play into stereotypical interests in the "exotic". While a communal spirit is evoked in his art, it is far from being folkloric. It goes beyond barriers, nationalities and arbitrary political borders. Its spiritual hopefullness and sheer emotional power and beauty reaches across nations and make men look at one another with fresh, unprejudiced eyes".
