Curriculum - 04 - Cosme Proenza

Cosme Proenza Almaguer, born 1948 in Holguín, studied at the National Art School, ENA, in Havana and at the Institute of Fine Arts in Kiev, from where he graduated as "Master of Fine Arts". His works got 13 times awarded and are in the museum collections of 23 countries - including the one of the Vatican.

" The works of this painter from the province Holguín lead deep into the breath of the world. He doesn't care about false nationalisms or stereotype identities, nor does he have inhibitions. He confronts the canvas as a master of his own head and imaginations. No one understands traditions as well as he does, no one recreates Bosco with a more secure and easy hand. I think he is the most excentric and unprejudiced painter in Cuba. He got the force of a demiurge, the key to the enchanted castle. He draws firm and delicate, his use of colors gives his postmodernism lyric dimensions, strengthens it and evokes an epiphamy. His hedonism nourishes itself from all sources - o, wonder of creation, what a gift you have made to the cuban art with Cosme Proenza!".
